THE
MISSION
To empower teachers as leaders
and develop leadership skills directly related to the rigors of educating
others.
The core of any great educational experience
is the teacher. Given the ever increasing complexity of the demands placed
on our teachers, Project LEAD IT recognizes and addresses the need to instill
teachers with the leadership necessary to make teaching and learning more
effective.
Project LEAD IT is focused on the deep
connection that exists between leading and teaching. Based on the understanding
that teaching is first and foremost a leadership endeavor, Project LEAD IT emphasizes the importance of explicitly exploring this connection and
providing related professional development opportunities for teachers.
As leaders, teachers:
- Are more effective in meeting our job-related demands
- Are more successful at meeting educational goals
- Create higher performing students
- Increase motivational levels and willingness to work hard in ourselves and our students
- Reduce absenteeism and discipline
- Posses high degrees of credibility
To strengthen leadership within teaching, Project LEAD IT
has dedicated itself to the following guiding principles:
-
Explicitly define teaching/educating as a
leadership endeavor.
-
Focus leadership development on the actual
activities, roles, and tasks performed by teachers within the realm of
the classroom.
-
Conduct outreach and training programs to
foster the development of leadership in teachers/educators.
-
Encourage leadership development as a core
value in training new teachers.
Great teachers are great leaders in their
classrooms. In recognizing this, the professional development of teachers
can support a career-long attention to leadership. Project LEAD IT is dedicated
to improving education through the enrichment of teachers. Investing in
the leadership of our teachers will serve as the linchpin for the educational
success of our students.

"Teachers need to understand that teaching is leadership. Teachers who use the skills of leaders will be more successful in dealing with classroom conflict, stress management, positive motivational procedures, pupil empowerment, task motivation, and the dynamic interaction of leaders and followers who give and take and change one another. The psychological power of a teacher is the power to nurture young people and to use the tools of leaders to empower growing citizens."
